blepharoplasty
DR. ANDRÉS LOZANO
Blepharoplasty is an eyelid surgery that corrects excess skin and bags around the eyes, aiming for a more rested and rejuvenated look without changing the natural expression of the face.
It can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on the characteristics and needs of each patient.
Upper blepharoplasty
It is primarily used to correct excess skin on the upper eyelids and, when necessary, excess fat.
The incision follows the natural eyelid crease, so the scar is usually well concealed within it.

Lower blepharoplasty
It helps treat bags under the eyes and improve the contour of the lower eyelid.
In many patients, the procedure can be performed through the inner side of the eyelid, without a visible incision. When there is excess skin, the technique can be adapted to correct it during the same procedure.
An individualized approach
Not all changes around the eyes are solely due to excess skin or bags. The position of the eyebrows, drooping eyelids, eyelid laxity, and each patient's individual anatomy can also influence the outcome.
Therefore, a prior assessment is essential to determine which technique is most appropriate in each case.

What is the surgery like?
Blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure that is generally performed under local anesthesia with sedation. The duration and surgical technique depend on whether the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both are being treated.
Recovery
It is normal to experience swelling and bruising during the first few days. These gradually subside, and most patients can progressively return to their usual activities.
During recovery, specific postoperative care instructions and follow-up visits are recommended to monitor proper healing.
Natural results
The goal is not to change the shape of the eyes or create an “operated” appearance, but rather to rejuvenate the eye area while preserving each patient’s natural features and expression.
